Featured in explicit porn videos

The live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” has proven a hit at the box office, yet has caused controversy. One of its tritons was played by Stefano Tomadini who has previously featured in explicit porn videos under the name Dante Ferrari – something Disney was unaware of before hiring him for their cast. They may now regret hiring such a controversial actor to play an iconic part.

The Little Mermaid (2023)

This live action adaptation of Disney’s 1989 original has an ambitious task ahead of it: Halle Bailey is best known for her work with Grammy-nominated R&B duo Chloe x Halle, but her casting as Ariel has made waves throughout Hollywood and beyond. We invite two Temple experts on diversity and inclusion – Sherri Hope Culver and Roland Williams – to explore what this film can teach new generations about diversity and representation within media.

Youngest daughter of King Triton

This movie follows Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton. Ariel becomes curious about life on land and makes a deal with sea with Ursula to walk on it. Ariel meets Prince Eric after they reach sea level, and despite the fact that mermaids are not allowed to communicate with humans, she falls in love with him. Unfortunately for Ariel though, human interaction is forbidden due to tradition; on her quest to follow her heart Ariel must decide between her kingdom and the human world above it. Among its cast are Jonah Hauer-King.

Personalities and backgrounds

Personalities and backgrounds

One thing I especially enjoyed about this movie was witnessing how each mermaid sister had its own distinct personalities and backgrounds, unlike in the animated original where six unnamed mermaids existed without distinction. I appreciate seeing that care had been put into creating their individual identities so they could shine individually in this tale of sisterly love.

Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy

As far as acting goes, it was still enjoyable. Excellent performances by Melissa McCarthy as Ursula and Halle Bailey as Ariel kept viewers interested the entire time. Unfortunately, the rest of the cast felt disconnected from their characters and the film lacked a coherent visual style; its ocean scenes looked beautiful while human scenes looked more Like Bridgerton’s cheap green screen Broadway productions, but with more colonial connotations than one might imagine.

Pacing issues

This remake was an effort at bringing an old classic back into life but ultimately fell flat. Pacing issues caused numerous scenes to drag on and lacked emotional resonance between characters – something I hope that remakes in future take more care with, placing more importance on story than visual style.

Temptation Island (1999)

Temptation Island first premiered in 1999 and returned for three more seasons between 2019-20. Its premise is simple: troubled couples are flown to tropical islands where they are separated from each other before being placed in buildings with attractive single men and women who try to seduce them into having affairs. This reality show promises an intense rollercoaster ride for viewers that audiences cannot turn away from; and for the most part it delivers.

Kristen Ramos and Julian Allen

Most participants of the show leave either broken up or worse off than when they arrived, with Kristen Ramos and Julian Allen who actually got engaged while appearing on the show being rare exceptions who managed to stay together post-show; unfortunately they have yet to replicate their results in real life.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Tim Burton conceived and wrote this stop-motion fantasy directed by Henry Selick to explore two big holidays–Halloween with its dark, macabre atmosphere, and Christmas with its joyous celebrations and hopefulness. When Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town becomes bored of his daily routine, he decides to experience something different by wandering in the woods where he eventually discovers Christmas Town and is entranced by its vibrant colors and cheerful atmosphere; determined to bring Christmas back home, Jack begins planning.

Visual feast and captivating tale

The Nightmare Before Christmas is an exquisite visual feast and captivating tale about love, loss and redemption. With its fast pace and catchy songs by Danny Elfman making for easy viewing pleasure; plus it offers layers of meaning for repeated viewings.

Popular culture

Animation masterpiece Frozen has left its mark on popular culture and how people celebrate holidays; teaching us lessons of interconnectivity that we can apply in daily events; becoming one of the most beloved animated movies ever produced and enjoyed by audiences worldwide. No wonder that Frozen remains so beloved.
